So you think I'm pregnant?!

So every now and again, someone will ask me if I'm pregnant. Its not because I have a belly the size of a basketball, or because I am eating pickles and ice cream, or even because I am bloated and wearing maternity clothes! No, no, no....its all because I enjoy wearing the one style that I realize now, can never be in my closet again...The EMPIRE waist.

I wore a cute tank top that just so happen to be empire waist. The material was light and airy and there were lace shoulders to compliment the top. Cameron and I were coming out of a restaurant and two ladies approached us to inquire about the establishment. One women asked what I had ate so I answered, "A burger, but I worked out today, so it was my treat." Her response? "Oh! Are you eating for two?" I couldn't believe what she had just said. My stomach is flat and in this top you can't even tell, so why would she ask? I quickly responded with "No, I just though Cameron and I would pretend tonight." Needless to say she was embarrassed and apologized over and over again. LOL...but I vowed to Cameron to never wear an empire waist again. This wasn't the first time and I knew it probably wouldn't be the last. I love this style because its comfortable but I am realizing now that it may not flatter me like I would want.

So here is an ode to empire waists everywhere...I loved you but you must go now...please don't try to contact me, I won't pick up, I won't answer the door. Goodbye...

Favorites Friday!

I thought I would change it up a bit!

Who doesn't have a favorite of something? Well I have tons of favorites in all things! Today its all about the movies! Cameron and I love movies so I thought I would share some of my favorites with you!
Love Stories-One of my favorite love stories! I am a fan of Keanu Reeves and I love how this story isn't a typical boy meets girl love story!

Period Pieces- My all time favorite movie. All of the actors are superb but my favorite is Val Kilmer! I think his performance is Oscar worthy!

Action-If you love fast cars then you will love this movie. All the movies in this updated series are great to watch, just make sure you grab plenty of popcorn if you are making a marathon of it, they are working on a Fast 7 coming out in 2015!

Dramas-This story touches my heart in more ways than one. Its about a father who uses his imagination to shield his son from the horrors of internment in a Nazi concentration camp. This is a must see!

Comedies-This is one of my favorite comedies because, in a way, it reminds me of myself! LOL! The pressures of trying to fit in!

Thought provoking- When I first watched this movie, I thought that every high school should play this for their students. This movie is about change and the fear some people have to do so and what it creates. Awesome movie!

Well, its Friday and these are my favorites!

Pet Peeves!

Ok I'm gonna talk about it...pet peeves. Everyone has them! They annoy us, frustrate us, or even anger some of us.

I have listed my pet peeves below. The first one gave me inspiration to write this blog in the first place.

Classmates talking while a professor or instructor is talking
Getting the bath rug wet when you get out of the shower (I step on my towel so my feet dry first)
Women who bite their nails, its a disgusting habit and I saw a classmate of mine doing it last night! Gross! At       least do it in privacy!
Sitting in a restaurant trying to have a peaceful meal when their is a screaming kid sitting nearby. What's               annoying about this is that the parents ignore the screaming child!
Smokers(see previous blog post)
leaving empty containers in the refrigerator or pantry
parents who take children to see Rated R movies
Hair on the floor (gross!)
Horrible drivers

So I probably have so many more that MAY come up in the future but I don't want to bore you! Have any pet peeves that annoy you?

Anyways, Have a great Thursday!

Monica

No smoking beyond this point!

Smoking and smokers...probably one of the most annoying things I deal with.

I was in class yesterday and noticed a girl walk out. I thought she was going to the restroom, instead she came back smelling of smoke. I couldn't believe it! She could not wait one hour (the length of the lab) to smoke! Why would anyone want to smoke when the bad outweigh the good?

First off, cigarettes are very expensive. The average pack costs about $7.20 (with tax) here in the state of Texas. If you smoke about a 2 packs a week, your cost per year is about $750.00! That is outrageous.

The next thing you have to deal with when you smoke is the effects it can have on your face. Cameron and I were at a restaurant and sitting on the patio and I remember seeing this lady with her family. Her skin was dry and wrinkled and she looked so aged. Once they got settled, the lady and her husband started to smoke. I thought, well no wonder she looks like that!

Smoking can effect every single part of your body. Why would anyone risk it?

If you knew that something you are doing is deteriorating your health, would you continue? And if you did, would you put your children at risk for cancer caused by second hand smoke? Cameron and I see it all the time: parents smoking in the care while their children are sitting in the backseat. Parents who take their children to a restaurant and sit outside, not because the weather is nice but because they want to smoke.

I was lucky to live in Los Angeles for several years where smoking is banned in most places. But now that I in Corpus Christi, things are a bit different. I wish that restaurants would create non smoking patios for people who want to enjoy the scenery and not have to breathe in someone else's smoke. I hate that these smokers can dictate where I sit! I wish people would wise up and realize that what they are doing is expensive, smells bad, and is very harmful to their health.

...ok, so I had to vent!

Have a great day!

I'm back and better than ever!

So it's been a while since I've last blogged anything. From what I remember, I was miserable and in a dead end relationship. Well, things have changed considerably since then! I moved from Los Angeles to San Antonio and then to Corpus Christi to be closer to my family and my boyfriend Cameron. Needless to say I am happier and healthier!

Let me start off by saying that my blogs will contain nothing but the truth. I don't sugarcoat anything. I thought it was important to start blogging again because I will use it as my sounding board, my friend, my diary. This will be where I talk about my innermost feelings. This will be where I tell stories and laugh about the crazy things I encounter. But most importantly, this will be where I give you a little piece of me, flaws and all.

This past weekend Cameron and I headed to San Antonio. We always have a great time anywhere we go but San Antonio holds a special place in our hearts. This is our mini vacation, our retreat, our getaway from all the craziness of life. Here we can be stress free and enjoy ourselves to the fullest. Here are a few of our favorite places in San Antonio:

When we feel like seeing a movie, we don't see it in Corpus Christi, we see it in San Antonio. The Alamo Drafthouse at Westlakes is never packed, the staff is always friendly, and the food is pretty good too! We like the atmosphere and it's vintage feel. Go check it out!

The Flying Saucer in a draught emporium that offers a wide selection of imported and domestic quality craft beers. They also have a full pub menu. Cameron is a member and is working on his first plate. Here at the Saucer, if you drink 200 different kinds of beers then you are awarded a custom plate which goes up on their wall inside. The only catch is that you can only have 3 beers a day towards your goal. Cameron is past 100 so it will be a while before he gets that plate! FYI, this specific location does not have liquor, while others in Austin, Dallas, and Houston do, so if you are looking for more than just beer, you're just gonna have to have a cider!

Talk about cheap eats! This is our go-to place for cheap food and a quick snack. They are open 24 hours and the service is excellent! Mama Margie's makes authentic tacos, burritos, mexican plates. They even have margaritas and beer!

And finally SOHO. By far, one of the best bars that Cameron and I have been to. This wine and martini bar is near the Riverwalk in dowtown San Antonio. The bartenders are masters at their skill and the menu boasts specialty drinks like Cucumber Fresca, Creme Brulee martini, and Pineapple Rita. Every time we go there the drink menu changes so its a new experience with every trip!

Cameron and I haven't even scratched the surface when it comes to fun things in SA, we are just getting started! I hope that you have a place like this that you can get away to even if just for a day. We all need that time to relax, have fun and enjoy ourselves!
